The world is a jumble of different personalities, societies, and communities. People face either resistance or compliance from their fellow human every day. From making a decision to board an airplane till hiring a taxi to take you home, you need to reach an agreement to make everything work.

When disagreements prevail in our lives, we seek to reach a possible agreement with the people involved through discussions and debate. These interactions mostly happen when the perspectives of the parties involved are not aligned with each other but both parties seek to reach an agreement for mutual benefit.
  • Before approaching someone for a possible negotiation, you must know what you want from this agreement. What are your priorities? Then you must know the opposite party's interests. Why do they want this agreement? If you know what they are hoping to get out of this agreement, it leaves for a window opportunity. This means you can influence their decisions if you play smart enough. After that, you must find a common ground. This is the key to successful planning.
  • After the initial planning, both parties discuss the course of their negotiations. Exchange of information, as well as the exchange of ideas, is necessary to understand each other’s perspective. By this time, it should be clear, what both parties want out if this agreement.
  • After that, one of the parties should come forward and propose a deal that takes care of everyone’s interests for it to be accepted by all.
  • During this stage, parties involved have the power to reject or accept the proposal or they can ask for the revisions of some conditions to better fit their needs.
  • After revisions, an agreement is reached and both parties clearly set forth their expectations from the agreement and at last end their discussions on a positive note.
